  • Developed an automatic regression test harness for VHDL code using Python, HTML, CSS, and Bash scripting. The program elaborated a library of high level simulation commands into a VHDL testbench to be simulated using the Active-HDL command line simulator. Results were then verified cycle by cycle against the standard for the VHDL module under test.
  • Ported the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) VHDL design from a Xilinx Virtex series 5 FPGA to a Series 7 Device. Gathered board utilization data using Vivado and verified that all modules in the design were accounted for and not optimized away.

Bit-Flip Pre-Fetcher with Justin Meza Summer 2013
Research Assistant Pittsburgh, PA

  • The goal was to optimize DRAM latency at the system level with a pre-fetcher that uses a grammar constructor algorithm (SEQUITUR) to create a hierarchy of rules that predicts frequently accessed memory locations.
  • Implemented the algorithm in Python and ran it against pseudo-random strings to see the depth and breath of the dictionary created. Analyzed tradeoffs of using the algorithm and measured its impact on system resources at a high level.
